Vandaag is er van zes tot acht uitzonderlijk een uitzending van zéro de conduite. Zéro de conduite is een POPprogramma op Radio Centraal in Antwerpen. In normale omstandigheden elke eerste zaterdag van de maand (nu dus niet), van 6 tot 8 ’s avonds. Heerlijk als je druk bezig bent in de keuken, of bij het aperitief, en later aan tafel bij de zeeduivel! Stem af op 106.7 FM. Je kunt het programma eveneens via streaming beluisteren. Vanavond worden het liederen over de aarde,” third stone from the sun”, aldus Jimi Hendrix. Al is de aarde niet altijd het onderwerp, soms alleen maar decor, achtergrond, iets groots om iets kleins mee te vergelijken. Liederen over ecologie, geschreven vanuit het besef dat onze planeet wordt vernietigd, wat al in de jaren zestig bij de hippies sterk aanwezig was, denk maar aan hun slogans, “back to the country, “back to the garden”, “back to mother earth”, besef dat nu nog veel acuter is geworden.
Deze songs zijn echter niet allemaal klaagzangen of aanklachten; vaak wordt de aarde, wordt de natuur bezongen en bejubeld. Soms is de aarde een eenzame bol, even eenzaam als de cabine in het ruimteschip van David Bowie. Een enkele keer is ‘onze’ planeet een metafoor voor de dagelijkse sleur, zoals in the Daily Planet van Arthur Lee en Love.
Vreemd genoeg zijn – naar mijn bevinding – de popsongs over de aarde vrij schaars, zeker als je hun aantal vergelijkt met dat van die over de veiligheid van huis en thuis. Bestaat er bij veel songschrijvers dan toch een soort atavistische schrik voor moeder aarde, die misschien ook wel een angst is voor de oermoeder, bron van alle leven?
Hoe het ook zij: ik denk dat mijn selectie een mooi en soms ook ontluisterend sfeerbeeld geeft van het leven hier op aarde, de aarde op mensenmaat. Ja, dit is inderdaad weer een programma in de reeks ‘sferen’.
